How to Play Secreta: Beginner Guide (No Spoilers)

How to play Secreta without spoilers: what the free part includes, how questions, hints and notes work, and how many cases there are.

ByAlonso·

Secreta is a story game about suspicion inside a couple: someone who thinks their partner is lying gives you a copy of that partner’s phone, and you answer the fifteen questions of their case one by one. You are not the jealous one and you are not an officer on a criminal case — you are the person the client trusts with the phone, and your job is to reply with what the phone actually shows.

What you actually do in Secreta

Each case starts with a conversation. Someone explains why they suspect the person they love, hands you the copy of the phone and asks the questions they cannot ask themselves. From that moment the phone screen is the whole game: a dark interface with chats, a social feed, photos, the gallery, the map history, the bank app, health data and a handful of parody apps — Instagrem, WhatsUp, Spotifi, Tindr, Airbnd, ChatGTP.

You read. You open a thread and find a name you do not recognise, you open the gallery and find a photo that does not match the story, you open the bank app and find a payment that explains an evening. Every answer exists in one place only, and it is your job to find it before you reply.

Then you answer. The client asks one question at a time and you pick your reply from the options on screen. Fifteen questions per case, in order, with no going back to an earlier one. They are not riddles or puzzles: they are the questions somebody asks at one in the morning, and you answer them with evidence, not with an opinion.

Nothing inside that phone is real. Secreta is fiction, the phone is fictional, and the app never reads, copies or monitors a real device.

Questions 1 to 9 are free

Every case is free until question 9. You can play the first nine questions of all four cases without paying anything, which is enough to see how the game works, how the phone is built and whether the story holds you.

From question 10 you need Pro to continue. Pro unlocks the rest of every case and adds a hint for every question. The price and the subscription details are shown on the store listing before you buy, and the purchase itself is handled by the App Store or Google Play, not by us.

There is nothing else to unlock, no ads between questions and no timer that makes you wait.

How hints work (3 per case, free)

Each case gives you three free hints, and every question has its own. A hint does not tell you the answer: it tells you where to look — which app, which thread, which corner of the phone.

The three free hints belong to the case, not to the session. If you open one on question 4 and close the game, the hint stays used and the case remembers it. With Pro the limit disappears, and you can open a hint for every question in the case.

A sensible order is to read everything first, note what does not fit and spend a hint only when a specific detail refuses to appear. Most questions can be answered without a single one.

Notes, and why they matter

The phone includes a notes app, and you write in it yourself while you play. Notes stay inside the phone and appear in the menu, so you can reopen them at any moment of the case.

They matter because the link between a question and its answer is rarely on the same screen. A number you saw in a chat three apps ago, a date in the gallery, the name of a place saved under a misleading label: by question 12 you will not remember any of it. Writing it down, even as a single line, is the difference between answering and guessing.

Notes are also the only index the game gives you. There is no external case file, no list of suspects, no automatic summary of what you have found: the phone holds the evidence and your notes hold the pointers to it.

How many cases are there

There are four cases, and each is self-contained: its own couple, its own city and its own client. One case fits comfortably in an evening, and you can stop between cases, or between questions, without losing anything.

The four stories take place in different places — Costa Verde, Bergen, Brooklyn and Lyon — and none of them depends on the others. You can begin with whichever one you like.

Whether a suspicion ends up confirmed or falls apart is part of each story, and this guide will not tell you. That is the point of playing it.

Languages and devices

Secreta is available in ten languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Turkish, Russian and Korean. You choose the language in the game settings and can change it whenever you want.

The game runs on iOS and Android and is coming to the App Store and Google Play; the buttons on the home page change as soon as the store listings are live. It plays offline: once the cases are on your device, no connection is needed, and there are no ads.

Saving your progress

Your progress and the name you type at the beginning are stored only on your device. There is no account, no sign-in and no cloud save, so we hold neither your name nor your answers on any server.

The practical consequence is simple. If you uninstall the game or move to a new phone, the case starts over, because there is nowhere else for that progress to come from. If you plan to return to a case, leave the game installed until you finish the questions you have open.

How Secreta fits in

Secreta is fiction about a couple: suspicion, secrets and lies, and a set of questions answered from a fictional phone. It is not a crime or police story and it is not a phone-monitoring app — the app never reads, copies or monitors a real phone, and all four cases are invented.

If you want to see how it compares with other games where the story lives inside a phone, the guide to phone investigation games covers the genre, and cheating detective games collects the ones built around a couple’s suspicion. What the game is, and how to get it when it launches, is on the Secreta home page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does one Secreta case take?

Each case fits in an evening: it holds fifteen questions, and the phone you explore inside it is small enough to learn in a few minutes. You can stop after any question and come back later, and the case keeps your progress on your device.

Do the three free hints come back if I use them?

No. The three hints are per case and they stay used once you open them, so spend them on the questions where a specific detail refuses to appear. With Pro the limit disappears and every question has a hint available.

What happens to my notes and progress if I uninstall the game?

Both are stored only on your device, with no account and no cloud copy, so uninstalling Secreta or changing phone starts the case over. If you plan to return to a case, leave the game installed.
